This Month in Friendship Lodge History

Worshipful James E. Grove, PM 1993
On January 29th, 1981, Mr. James Edward Grove was initiated into Friendship Lodge. He later went on to become Master for the year 1993.

At the January 1976 stated meeting, an application of affiliation was read from Brother Jerry Estruth, who was a member of Lodge No. 6 of Bogota, Columbia. Brother Estruth was a trustee of Friendship Lodge for many years, and later became our investment advisor at Dean Whitter Reynolds and after that Morgan Stanley.

At that same meeting, Brother CC “Bud” Wilson thanked the lodge for permitting him to hold the job of Head Candidate’s Coach, and introduced his successor, Brother Al Blackerby, as Brother Wilson was retiring from that position.

Worshipful Leighton C. Brownton, PM 1911
At the January 1961 stated meeting, Worshipful Leighton Copeland Brownton was presented with 50-Year Golden Veteran’s Award. Worshipful Brownton was Master of Friendship Lodge in 1911.

Worshipful Perley F. Gosby, PM 1892-1893
On January 23rd, 1936, Worshipful Perley Francis Gosby was presented with 50-Year Golden Veteran’s Award. Worshipful Gosby was Master of Friendship Lodge in 1892 and 1893.

At the January 1911 stated meeting, Friendship Lodge received a request from the Southern California Past Master’s Association to join in a petition to the Grand Lodge of California to call a special convocation of Grand Lodge to consider a petition to hold the next regular Grand Lodge Communication in Los Angeles instead of San Francisco. Friendship Lodge voted to send our regrets to the Southern California Past Master’s Association that we would not be supporting their petition.

At that same meeting, a resolution was approved, increasing the lodge dues to 75 cents per month.
